Meet Dr. Amy Tran

Amy Tran, DDS

Born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley, Dr. Amy grew up around dentistry as her father has been practicing for over 30 years and counting. As far back as she can remember, she was always roaming around the corridors of her father’s practice and watching him treat patients. Many wondered if she would also pursue dentistry as her career but she kept her options open for some time. During her undergraduate years at University of California, Los Angeles, she explored career options in medicine and in research.

Perhaps it was her childhood exposure or the passion exhibited by her father for his career, but Dr. Amy ultimately decided to apply to dental school after receiving her undergraduate degree in Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics from UCLA. After interviewing at multiple schools, she was torn between staying local at her alma mater’s dental school or fulfilling a dream of attending the Harvard School of Medicine. In the end, she chose to be close to her family and was admitted to the UCLA School of Dentistry as a Regent Scholar.

While in dental school, Dr. Amy held various positions in student council and ultimately graduated with honors as Class President.  After graduating, she served as part-time clinical faculty in Restorative Dentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry from 2008 to 2014. She continues to participate in various study clubs to further hone and sharpen her clinical skills as she strives to provide comprehensive care for her patients.

Dr. Amy is an active member of the San Gabriel Valley Dental Society and served as President in 2018. She is a delegate for the California Dental Association and American Dental Association. She believes that participation in organized dentistry will help improve the profession and help achieve its main goal of providing for those in need. Through her efforts to give back to the community and to the profession, she has been recognized by her peers and bestowed Fellowship to the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. She is also involved with the following organizations:

  • American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
  • Academy of Operative Dentistry
  • Academy of R.V. Tucker Study Clubs

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Amy enjoys spending time with her husband, William, and her two daughters. She particularly finds interest in arts and crafts, world travel, trying different foods from various cultures, driving fast cars on the race-track and cooking.
